On Sunday,
#CycloneFreddy hit Malawi, bringing with it 95/mph winds and torrential rains. The resulting flooding has devastated southern Malawi. The government has declared a state of emergency.
More than 58,000 people have been affected by the flooding, with almost 20,000 people displaced from their homes. Many areas are still inaccessible due to the floods.
Anock Kapiri, National Director Habitat Malawi describes the situation as dire, and Malawi as a nation in distress. Habitat is on the ground, and will respond with emergency shelter kits and other immediate needs as well as planning for long term recovery.
