Changing lives in Malawi...

Thanks to my fantastic employer, Accent/House Of HR, I have the unique opportunity to change the lives of an underprivileged community in Africa forever...

You read that right. In mid-May I, together with 19 colleagues from House Of HR, will travel to Malawi (East Africa) for 10 days to participate in the construction of a village for the local community. This project is carried out under the safe wings of the non-profit organization Habitat For Humanity.

Last summer, my family and I embarked on a beautiful road trip through South-Africa and eSwatini (formerly Swaziland).

What we saw and experienced there has changed my perspective on life.

From extreme wealth to extreme poverty and everything in between. A rollercoaster of emotions. A continent full of contrasts with its own specific challenges. A mix of cultures. Unseen natural beauty.
But above all: an immensely warm and grateful population.

I'll never forget the moment when two children, barefoot and dressed in rags, came to the gate of our lodge in the harsh cold, asking for food. The grateful look in their eyes when we gave them some breadsticks we had in the car...

That touches you very deeply.

It took me at least 3 months after returning home to process all the emotions.
It was an incredibly beautiful experience, but I'm left with a void... an unfulfilled feeling. There is so much help needed, so much we can do to assist, but within the context of a family vacation, it's not that obvious.

This project is a unique opportunity for me to fill the void that remains within me.

I want to go back and TRULY make an impact. I want to help. To realize dreams.
